A Georgia teen mom allegedly slit her baby's throat and cut out his heart before attempting to bury his remains in her backyard, police say.

Leticia Rodriguez, 17, has been charged with murder, aggravated assault, concealing a death, abuse of a dead body and abandonment of a dead body, in connection with the death of her newborn, according to police in Marietta, Georgia, WANF-TV reported.

It's unclear if she entered pleas to the charges. She is being held without bond.

Police first responded to Rodriguez's family home Nov. 22 when her uncle allegedly witnessed her trying to dig a hole in their backyard six hours after she gave birth to a baby boy in her bedroom, WAGA-TV reported.

The baby was found dead in a blanket stuffed in a grocery bag, with a "large laceration" to the neck, according to police. Rodriguez also allegedly admitted to investigators she used a pocket knife to "cut out the deceased infant's heart."

"Investigators worked throughout the evening to determine what exactly caused all of this," Marietta police spokesperson Chuck McPhilamy said last Monday, according to WXIA-TV.

"The family has been cooperative with us through this entire investigation, and certainly, our hearts go out to them... We can't imagine the trauma that they are going through."
