Police have arrested the granddaughter of an elderly Florida couple who were slaughtered in their home, making her the second suspect charged in the brutal killings.
Jalisa Hill, 39, was taken into custody on two first-degree murder charges Thursday.
Hill's arrest comes just two weeks after her ex-boyfriend, 30-year-old Maurice Anthony Newson, was taken into custody.
Newson was linked to the couple's stolen car following the murders and immediately became the primary focus of the investigation.
Police revealed that Hill had voluntarily taken a polygraph test after her former boyfriend's arrest but was determined "untruthful when asked about her involvement in her grandparents' deaths," according to Local10.
She now stands accused in the murders of her 80-year-old grandparents, Major and Claudette Melvin, who were found shot to death in their home on March 22.
"It is believed she worked in conjunction with Maurice Newson to murder her grandparents," a Fort Lauderdale Police Department spokesperson said Thursday.
"FLPD is able to close this case thanks again to our community who provided information throughout this investigation that led to the arrests."
