An Indiana Uber driver admitted to police that he brutally killed a woman and raped her corpse—all because she laughed at him.
Francisco Valadez, 29, allegedly confessed after giving investigators conflicting stories as to why Chanti Bresha Dixon, his Uber rider, was found dead Monday in a wooded area on the southeast side of Indianapolis.
Initially, Valadez told police the woman's shooting was due to a robbery before retracting the story and admitting he shot Dixon in the head because she laughed at him while he tried to have sex with her, according to the Indianapolis Star.
"This is disgusting. It's disturbing," Police Chief Chris Bailey said in a news conference.
Dixon's family contacted authorities when they were unable to reach her since Sunday morning.
They told officers she left work about 3:30 a.m. and took an Uber ride home.
Detectives were able to trace the Uber request to review route and time details.
After gathering the driver's car model—a BMW along with its license plates—they traced the information to Valadez's home.
As officers took him into custody, a relative of the suspect revealed to officers that Valadez carried a gun and everything he cleaned out of his car was inside the home.
After the shooting, authorities claim Valadez dragged Dixon from the car and placed her behind a concrete barrier where her body was found.
The Marion County Prosecutor's Office has yet to determine final charges against him.
In a statement from Uber, the company said Valadez has been banned from the platform while offering their condolences over Dixon's tragic death.
"Our hearts break for Ms. Dixon's family and loved ones in the midst of this tragedy. The details of this act of violence are atrocious, and we will assist the Indianapolis police however we can as they continue to investigate."
