HGTV cancels planned show for Benham brothers following anti-gay comments

By

Television celebrities and brothers David and Jason Benham lost an opportunity to host their own show on HGTV, CNN said. The network decided to pull out its plans for the brothers for its new show ""Flip It Forward" slated for an October premiere after Right Wing Watch published a post about the pair on its site.

The controversial post had labeled David as "anti-gay, anti-choice extremist" because of his leading a premier outside of the Democratic National Convention held in Charlotte, North Carolina in 2012. The post also showed a recording of Benham talking to a host about homosexuality. Benham was caught in the recording labeling homosexuality's goal in purportedly attacking the US with its agenda and that its alleged demonic ideologies is supposedly taking hold in public schools and colleges. The recording also saw how Benham was passionate about its fight for Amendment One, of which its provisions included a ban on same-sex marriages and civil unions in the constitution of North Carolina.

After the post became public, HGTV suddenly became apprehensive of the Benham brothers and the controversial remarks David has dropped about homosexuality. In a tweet, the network said, HGTV has decided not to move forward with the Benham Brothers' series.

The Benham brothers would have hosted the HGTV show that would have helped families to acquire homes that they could not afford, CNN said. Pointing to an April press release, the network explained the premise of the show, "After a decade of flipping houses for profit, brothers David Benham and Jason Benham now help families buy the homes they never thought they could afford. In each episode, the guys help a deserving family find a fixer-upper and transform it into their forever home - with a healthy dose of sibling rivalry between the brothers along the way."

The Benhams released a statement following the cancellation of the plans for them to host the HGTV show. They stated, "We were saddened to hear HGTV's decision. With all of the grotesque things that can be seen and heard on television today you would think there would be room for two twin brothers who are faithful to our families, committed to biblical principles, and dedicated professionals. If our faith costs us a television show then so be it."
