Just as Ghana resolved its bonus dispute with its World Cup national squad, another problem threatens the country's chances to advance in the knockout round of the tournament. A statement has been released by the Ghana Football Association on Thursday afternoon saying that it has suspended two of its experienced football players from the Black Stars team, Daily Mail reported.
Ghana midfielders Kevin-Prince Boateng and Sulley Muntari have been suspended following their clashes against some members of the national team management. The GFA has also confirmed this decision on their official website on the same day.
According to the statement, the two players were sent home after separate incidents with GFA executive committee and management member Moses Armah and team coach Kwesi Appiah.
Indian Express said the incident between Muntari and Armah first happened during negotiations about the Ghanaians' pay for playing in the World Cup. It could be recalled that the Ghana president had intervened in the issue and had sent $3 million in cash via plane to Brasilia in order to resolve the dispute. Prior to the resolution, Muntari purportedly punched Armah during one of the meetings as senior players of the national team had rounded on their officials for not keeping promises, a team source has disclosed to the paper.
Muntari was already set to miss his team's next match against Portugal for earning a second booking during Ghana's draw with Germany last week.
Boateng, on the other hand, was punished for his vulgar verbal assault on Appiah during a training session with the team in Maceio this week. It is not known what had caused the former Spurs and Portsmouth attacking midfielder to launch a verbal tirade against Appiah, but the GFA statement indicated that a 'showdown' of sorts had happened. GFA said Boateng showed no remorse for his actions.
"The Ghana Football Association (GFA) has approved coach Kwesi Appiah's decision to suspend Kevin-Prince Boateng indefinitely from the Black Stars," GFA added in the statement.
