FIFA will probe on Luis Suarez biting allegations during Uruguay-Italy match

By

Luis Suarez's team's match against Italy this week would probably be his last for now should FIFA decide to punish the Uruguayan player for the alleged biting incident. FIFA recently announced that it would be investigating allegations of Suarez biting Italian defender Giorgio Chiellini towards the end of the latter's team's 1-0 victory.

According to a FIFA spokesperson, "We are awaiting the official match reports and will gather all the necessary elements in order to evaluate the matter."

The disciplinary code of the world soccer body could ban a player a maximum of 24 matches or two years, the Independent said. The longest ban in World Cup history so far would be eight games for Mauro Tassotti of Italy for breaking Spanish player Luis Enrique's nose with an elbow in 1994.

In the match replay, Suarez appeared to be clashing with the Italian as the two competed for a chance to make a free kick when the Uruguayan obviously thrown his head in Chiellini's direction. The center-back immediately fell down on the field in agony, with Suarez reacting to also play victim of the clash. Chiellini, who was clearly incensed with the act, got up and tried to attract the referee, showing in public what appeared to be teeth marks on his left shoulder purportedly left my the Liverpool striker. Meanwhile, Suarez is seen holding his teeth in pain supposedly from the contact.

Neither of the two were penalized for the incident and that the play eventually continued, Independent said. Uruguay's Diego Godin broke the ice with the only goal in the game, sending his team to the round of 16 in the tournament at Italy's expense.

Suarez has since refused to comment on the biting incident. Uruguayan captain Diego Lugano and team manger Oscar Tabarez were quick to defend Suarez, and insisted that the contact was hyped up to Italy's favor.
