Spanish player Jordi Alba threatens journalist after World Cup final game against Australia

By

Jordi Alba is pretty bummed on Spain's early exit from the 2014 World Cup. Following his team's nonetheless 3-0 win over Australia in Arena da Baixada, Alba somewhat channeled his frustration to one particular journalist at a mixed zone where media gathers to speak to players, the Guardian said. Passing in front of sports Daily AS reporter Javier Gómez Matallanas, Alba said without stopping, ""Next time I'll rip your head off."

Matallanas, who was caught offguard with the verbal threat, might have asked Alba what that is all about. Alba continued and said, "Yes, yes, next time ... I'm warning you."

Except Matallanas does not know what he did to anger Alba, or what he should do to prevent a "next time."

Journalists who were present in the area said that the confrontation continued as the Spanish team, who were then reigning world soccer champions, boarded their flight back to ther home country. Alba, who was accompanied by Sergio Busquets, started another verbal attack on Matallanas and accused the latter of being a grass. Grass is a British slang term for an informer or a snitch.

Prior to the second confrontation, Matallanas spoke to Onda Cero and shared his confusion about Alba's accusation, the Guardian said.

He stated, "I have no idea why. I have not written anything about him. I don't remember writing anything about him at all."

There has been no report yet from Alba's camp on what caused the Spanish player's anger at Matallanas. Moreover, it is not known whether FIFA would be investigating the matter or would need to wait on Matallanas' complaint before conducting one regarding Alba's unsportsmanship behavior.

Spain avoided total humiliation as the former World Cup champions when they conquered Australians in a 3-0 finish. This marked their only win in the tournament, as they initially suffered crushing losses against the Netherlands and Chile that had forced them out of the World Cup, Fox Sports said. The old Spain was back, thanks to David Villashowing some of the clever passing football has ever seen that made the national team world champions in the last six years, winning Euro 2008, its first World Cup in South Africa in 2010 and then Euro 2012.
