World Cup celebrations can get rowdy. You can asked the Los Angeles Police about that.
After Mexico won 3-1 against Croatia to advance to the round of 32 in this year's tournament, hundreds of fans poured into the streets of Huntingdon Park, California after the match, Daily Mail said. While majority of them celebrated in peace, some of the fans' behavior got out of hand, which required suburban LA police to step into the revelries.
Meanwhile, in Pacoima, police were forced to close onramps and offramps on the 5 Freeway after scores of Mexico fans took the streets to express their happiness over their favorite team's significant win. Cars in the streets were forced to either stop or navigate through fans who were chanting and waving Mexico flags. 10 of them started rocking a white pickup truck for unknown reasons, officials told KCBS. Others began to hop onto the vehicle.
In a video footage of the celebrations, a woman was seen running away from the police and throwing a bottle in the process to the authorities. She was later chased on foot and motorcycle, and later surrendered when she was tackled by SWAT. KTLA said that she and three others were arrested on the scene. The four were booked on charges public rowdy behavior - two for public intoxication, one for failure to disperse.
A local resident shared to KCBS about the festivities. Priscilla Bautista was quoted as saying, "Don't disrespect, you know, buses and breaking stuff, breaking glass, throwing [bottles] and disrespecting the law."
Just before 6Pm that day, a police advisory was issued, demanding that the celebration should break up immediately."Fans celebrating Mexico's win are reminded to obey all laws. Pedestrians MUST stay out of the street."
KCBS said it took local police over two hours to control the rowdy crowd and move them out of the busy street.
Mexico is set to face of the Netherlands on Sunday. Daily Mail said the team has reached the last 16 of every World Cup tournament since 1994.
