If there's anyone who is more disappointed by England coach Roy Hodgson and his team's finish at this year's World Cup, it would be the fans back home. England's loss also became personal when a reveler at a pub had threatened medics who were attending to a female fan of the opposing team during the nail-biting match against Uruguay on Thursday night, the Guardian reported.
The incident happened at the Duke of York pub in Market Street, Telford, Shropshire, at about 9:30 PM. West Midlands ambulance service paramedics were called to attend to a semi-conscious woman, who was in her 20s, who was injured in a fall when Uruguay scored its second goal, according to the the ambulance service.
The ambulance service spokesman said, "Their way was blocked by another woman who refused to move and threatened to 'rip their faces off'."
An ambulance service assistant area manager Rob Marsh said that while emergency services personnel do understand the severity of England's loss to Uruguay in the World Cup, they do not condone the type of behavior made towards them, especially at the time when they are just doing their jobs. He added, "While we understand people were upset at the result and had apparently had a drink, there is absolutely no excuse for behavior of this sort."
When police arrived at the pub to oversee the situation, the medics were able to treat the woman and that the woman had already left the club. Marsh reportedly appealed to the remaining people in the pub to identify the woman so police will be able to speak to her regarding the incident.
The ambulance service also said that they have also attended to another individual who also gotten himself injured due to the World Cup. A separate call-out to emergency line 999 reported that a football fan had fallen eight feet off a car park of the White Lion pub in Sutton Coldfield, Birmingham, at about 10:10PM, landing on his head. Medics have said that the man appeared to have not been seriously injured in the fall, but was taken to Good Hope Hospital located in the city for further evaluation.
