Report says England still has a chance to win the World Cup

By

The drama-filled, action-packed match between Uruguay and England on Thursday had dimmed the chances of the Three Lions to get eliminated from the 2014 World Cup. Thanks to Liverpool striker Luis Suarez, the Uruguayan has dashed the hopes of the Britons who had been, as the country's official song goes, hoping that it would be able to snag the championship.

Metro, on the other hand, said that unless certain circumstances would play out accordingly, then there is a slight possibility that England will remain in the World Cup.

For one, the British tabloid said Italy would need to beat Costa Rica tonight. Should that happen, England needs to beat Costa Rica by a few more goals on its scheduled match on Tuesday. Around the same day, Italy would then need to beat Uruguay by a few more goals. Metro said that should these play out in order, Italy will then be proclaimed the Group D winner and will automatically go through the World Cup Finals. England, Costa Rica and Uruguay will be tied at three points each for winning at least one game in the group match. The tabloid is hoping that based on the goal difference rule, England will hopefully come in at second place, which will give the team a chance to win the World Cup.

However, the Guardian observed that some fans no longer believe about England's chances in the World Cup, at least on Twitter.

Nick Clegg, Deputy Prime Minister of the United Kingdom and Lord President of the Council, tweeted his encouragement about England managing to win uruguay ahead of the second half of the match. However, to his dismay, there were several people who wish the politician just rather shut his mouth.

Twitter user Irish Dan said, "@nick_clegg That is the least inspiring thing I've read in my entire life."

Another user, Primly Stable, wrote, "Nick Clegg probably thinks England can lose and still become World Champions by joining forces with Germany."
