The New Zealand Herald said that all seemed well at the household of Paul Simon, the one-half of the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame inductee Simon & Garfunkel, following a domestic altercation with his musician wife at their New Canaan home over the weekend. On Wednesday, Edie Brickell's website uploaded a song sang by her and her singer-songwriter husband entitled "Like To Get To Know You." It was interesting to note that the lyrics of a song might have somehow mirrored the duo's struggle at marriage just like any another couple, as the paper said that the song tells about problems occurring in a relationship. The song ends with a hopeful line, which read, "I'd like to get to know you, again."
According to a police report, Simon called the emergency hotline and later hung up, which prompted to a police response. Police said that the 72 year-old and his 48 year-old wife became physical with each other on Saturday following an argument inside a cottage of their property. Brickell told police that she confronted Simon after the latter did something that had hurt her. Brickell did not elaborate, but she told police that her husband shoved her at one point during the altercation.
The Hour of Norwalk, a radio program who first obtained a copy of the police report, said that Simon obtained a superficial cut to his ear while Brickell had a bruise on her wrist. The woman also smelled of alcohol at the time the police responded to the distress call. Simon reportedly stayed at another property in New York perhaps to cool tensions following the altercation.
On Monday, the duo apparently have patched things up when they showed up together holding hands. The two told Superior Court Judge William Wenzel that they refused an issuance of protective order as it was not necessary, and that they do not consider each other a threat.
Simon said to Wenzel, "Both of us are fine together. We had an argument and it's atypical of us and neither one of us has any fear or any reason to feel threatened."
Brickell chimed in and said, "He's no threat to me at all."
The couple is still expected to appear in court on May 16, The New Zealand Herald said.
