The former girlfriend of a man convicted in the rape and murder of missing Florida teen Brittanee Drexel admitted she lied to the FBI about her role in the deadly incident.
Angel Vause, 56, of Georgetown, South Carolina, pleaded guilty to three counts of lying to federal investigators in connection with the 2009 kidnapping, rape, and murder of 17-year-old Drexel, prosecutors announced Monday.
Investigators said Vause lied about her whereabouts during Drexel's murder, as well as being in possession of the victim's cell phone and Drexel's willingness to go along with the couple to their campsite.
Vause faces up to 24 years in prison, a fine up to $250,000, restitution, and three years of supervision to follow the term of imprisonment. She will be sentenced at a later date, however her bond was revoked and she was taken into custody.
Vause's plea comes nearly two years after former boyfriend, Raymond Moody, now 64 and a registered sex offender at the time of the killing, pleaded guilty to the kidnapping, murder and rape of Drexel while she was visiting Myrtle Beach, South Carolina, during spring break 2009.
Moody said Drexel voluntarily entered the couple's vehicle and agreed to go to a campsite to smoke marijuana with them.
Drexel's body was found in May 2022, after Moody confessed to her killing and led investigators to her remains, according to the Democrat & Chronicle.
Moody admitted he was driven to kill Drexel following the realization he might get sent to prison after initially raping her.
