A Pennsylvania man accused of a glass bottle attack against two Jewish students at the University of Pittsburgh is suspected of perpetrating a similar assault a day prior.
Jarrett Buba, 52, now stands accused of hurling a glass bottle at two people with ties to Carnegie Mellon University in a Pittsburgh neighborhood on Aug. 29, police said, according to the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette.
The bottle allegedly struck a vehicle the victims were driving and no one was injured in the incident. It's unclear why the victims were targeted, said police.
The next day in a similar incident involving a glass bottle, Buba allegedly ambushed two students on the Pitt campus. The students, dressed in yarmulkes – a traditional Jewish garb – both suffered gashes to the face and neck.
Buba was allegedly wearing a keffiyeh – a checkered scarf traditionally worn both by men in the Middle East and supporters of the Palestinian cause – at the time of the incident, according to police.
The suspect has been charged with two counts of aggravated assault in connection with the Aug. 30 attack. For the earlier incident, he faces charges of reckless endangerment and harassment, Fox43 reported.
Authorities have not officially identified either attack as a hate crime.
Buba is scheduled to appear in court Sept. 12.
