A Virginia man has been arrested in connection with the disappearance of his wife, weeks after he initially reported her missing and was named a person of interest by authorities.

Naresh Bhatt was led out of his home in handcuffs Thursday following the execution of a search warrant at the couple's home on Wednesday, three weeks into the woman's disappearance, according to WJLA.

He was arrested and put in custody but it isn't currently known if he has been charged with anything.

Manassas Park Police announced in a press conference on Wednesday and confirmed that, due to Naresh Bhatt's refusal to assist law enforcement, he had been named as a person of interest.

Mamta Bhatt, 28, has had no contact with family and friends since she vanished from Manassas Park, VA, in late July.

Officers responded to the home of Mamta Bhatt and her husband on August 2 after receiving a request for a welfare check from her employer.

Mamta, a pediatric nurse and mother of one, was reported missing by Naresh on August 5 and reportedly said he had not seen his wife since July 31.

He initially declined to report her missing when first approached by officers on August 2, according to CBS.

In a press conference on Wednesday, Manassas Park Police Chief Mario Lugo revealed the department has been following leads and has executed over 10 search warrants, including the one at Bhatt's home, along with hundreds of interviews in connection with the case.

Authorities conducted a search at the couple's home on Wednesday evening and are hoping any evidence collected may lead to forensic answers.
