A California mom of 8 is dead and police have arrested three suspects, two of them juveniles, as family members grapple with losing "immense joy, love and kindness."
Maria Ramos, 33, was found shot to death by authorities responding to a shooting in Oakland, California on August 7, according to multiple reports. Nine days later, Oakland Police Department Deputy Chief Fredrick Shavies confirmed that three suspects, two juveniles and an adult male, were in custody for the killing.
The names of the suspects in custody have not been released.
"A young lady visiting her family was gunned down by two juveniles and a male adult over some sort of dispute," Shavies said.
Ramos' mother, Blanca Velasco, revealed to the San Francisco chronicle that Ramos was confronting who she thought were drug dealers, selling marijuana to her children.
"Our plan was to tell them to stop coming to our house," Velasco said.
A GoFundMe set up to cover the funeral expenses says Ramos leaves behind 8 children, ranging between 1 and 16 in age. The fundraiser is also meant to help support the children.
"It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of our beloved Maria Guadalupe Ramos Velasco on 08/07/2024. She brought immense joy, love, and kindness into the lives of everyone who knew her. As we navigate this profound loss, we are coming together to honor Guadalupe's memory and provide her with the farewell she truly deserve," the GoFundMe wrote.
