On Day 14 of the Oscar Pistorius murder trial, a barrage of text message conversations between the defendant and his late girlfriend, Reeva Steenkamp were presented in the High Court of Pretoria in South Africa. The messages, said Yahoo! News, indicated that the new affair between the once-celebrated athlete and the lovely young model was tumultuous and passionate.
One message from Steenkamp, which was dated three weeks after being fatally shot by Pistorius at his home, read, "I'm the girl who let go with u, even when I was scared out of my mind to."
Another read, "I'm the girl who fell in love with u and wanted to tell u this weekend but I'm also the girl that gets sidestepped when you are in a [expletive] mood. When I feel you think u have me so why try anymore..."
Pistorius listened in grave silence with tears rolling down his eyes as a police expert read them. Yahoo! News said the exchanges were from Steenkamp's iPhone. The private WhatsApp exchanges were one of the prosecution's attempt to prove the fact that Pistorius was capable of blowing his top, and could have been the reason that provoked him to shoot his girlfriend, who was cowering behind a bathroom door on Valentine's Day last year.
Yahoo! News said that the love affair between the Paralympian and the model was plagued with insecurity, jealousy and everything that comes being a celebrity couple, with the other half an international celebrity. Steenkamp, in one message, had attempted to overcome Pistorius' double-standards, mentions of previous relationships and the athlete's mood swings.
Pistorius, on the other hand, was somewhat remorseful about his behavior, and wrote to Steenkamp, "I want to talk to you, I want to sort this out.. I don't want have anything less than amazing for you and I.. I'm sorry for things I say without thinking and for taking offense to some of your actions. The fact that I'm tired and sick isn't an excuse."
Police phone expert Captain Francois Moller said in his testimony on Monday that the messages that were read that day was a tiny fraction of the 1,709 WhatsApp messages between the couple. Moller, said Yahoo! News, was part of the team that attempted to retrieve data from four mobile phones belonging to the couple. Moller will reportedly return to the stand on Tuesday to continue with his testimony.
