The latest witnesses who provided their testimonies at the murder trial of celebrated Paralympian Oscar Pistorius portrayed the athlete as a trigger-happy, deceitful person.
BBC said Pistorius' former girlfriend, model Samantha Taylor, recalled in court how the athlete cheated on her twice, the second time reportedly with Reeva Steenkamp. Although emails showed by Pistorius' defense team indicated that the former couple had called it quits, Taylor's demeanor said otherwise as she tearfully insisted that there was no official breakup that had happened between her and the defendant. It was known that Taylor and Pistorius had parted ways when the athlete showed up at the SA Sports Awards on November 4, 2012 with Steenkamp as his date.
The news outlet said Taylor's appearance at court was to bolster prosecutors' weapons possession charge against Pistorius. She reportedly told the court how Pistorius is a fan of guns, and always kept his gun with him in his person or near him. BBC noted that Taylor recounted two instances wherein Pistorius had woken her up at the defendants home after the athlete allegedly heard noise that could have been an intruder. Taylor, who had claimed that she knew the house well enough as she stays there four times a week, saw her ex-boyfriend grabbing his gun at those two occasions he thought that an intruder was inside his house.
Taylor also disclosed that the reason Pistorius fired a gun relating to the misdemeanor charge was because of an incident with a police officer, who stopped him for speeding and allegedly corrected the athlete about putting the gun on the car seat.
Security guard Pieter Baba was called in as the next witness to provide his testimony to the court after Taylor, BBC said. Baba, who mans the gated Silverwoods Country Estate where Pistorius live. Baba recalled that upon hearing the gun shots the night Steenkamp was killed, he called in from outside the villa, and Pistorius called him back and cried over the phone. Baba also told the court that he was rooted to his spot of shock when Pistorius carried a dying Steenkamp in his arms down the stairs of his villa.
The witnesses were called in to shed light into the type of person Pistorius is surrounding the mysterious fatal shooting of his girlfriend. Prosecutors believed that the athlete had a nasty argument with Steenkamp before shooting her, BBC said.
