Daily Mail said the criminal defense attorney of beleaguered pop star Justin Bieber confirmed to a celebrity news site that his client was not extended a plea bargain for his Miami DUI case.
Lawyer Roy Black has disclosed to RadarOnline that his team is preparing vigorously for the trial and that no deal was offered to Bieber regarding his case. The UK paper said Black has handled high-profile cases, which would probably be the reason why Bieber has tapped him for the case.
"The state has not offered any plea deal. The judge asked in court yesterday if an offer had been extended and the prosecutor said no. All I can say is that the case is set for trial and we are preparing for it," Black stated.
The 20 year-old is facing driving under the influence, resisting arrest and driving without
a valid license charges by the state of Miami. Bieber's camp has pleaded not guilty to all of the charges.
Daily Mail said Bieber's court date has been pushed to a later date as their camp has fought over the release of surveillance footage that was taken during his detention at a Miami Beach jail. The footage reportedly showed the pop star in various states of undress, with certain parts of the footage showing his personal parts while giving a urine sample for a standard drug test. It was found later on that although alcohol levels in Bieber's system were of legal limit for drivers, the results showed traces of marijuana and Xanax in Bieber's system.
Attorney Michael Salnick had told CNN that Bieber might not go to jail as a first-time offender, although an acquittal will most likely not happen. Moreover, Daily Mail said that Bieber could be mandated by the court to enter into the DUI diversion program, which will require him to subject himself to between six and nine months of random drug testing, perform 40 hours of community service, attend alcohol education classes and pay approximately $1,000 in fines and fees.
