Chinese smartphone manufacturing giant Xiaomi Inc is now the second largest smartphone vendor in India. And considering its going against tech behemoths Samsung Electronics and Apple Inc., this is not an easy feat.
An IDC report has shared that Xiaomi has climbed up to second place clinching 10.7 percent share in CY Q4 of 2016. This is a significant milestone for the firm as it only generated 3.3 percent during the same quarter in 2015. Meanwhile, according to GSMARena, the company's year-on-year shipments have grown exponentially with a growth of 15.3 percent in CY Q4 of 2016.
Xiaomi made its debut in India in 2014, as per Ubergizmo. Since its initial footing, the company has been more than welcomed by the South Asian country as this has been evidenced by its strong showing in sales and revenues. During that time, the firm has become as the country's largest online smartphone vendor and has since then been taking a much larger slice in the market.
Xiaomi has recently launched acclaimed devices like Xiaomi Redmi 3S, Redmi 3S Prime, Redmi Note 4 and Redmi 3S Prime. Some of these devices have been manufactured locally, extending the reach of the Chinese firm with a much stronger footing.
India is inarguably one of the more lucrative smartphone markets in the world. This is becoming more apparent as top players such as Samsung, Apple and Huawei have been hounding the country since they they infiltrated the market. Recently, Apple has revealed that it is en route to manufacturing iPhone in India. The tech giant is currently partaking 2 percent of the country's total share in the mobile market, BBC shared.
Meanwhile, South Korean tech giant Samsung is still at the top spot with more than 25 percent of the total share. And with Xiaomi's meteoric rise, it shouldn't come as a surprise when the Chinese manufacturer finally overtakes Samsung.
