Leaked Images Show New Sony Xperia XZ, Will Feature Bigger Screen

By

Sony's flagship smartphone called the Sony Xperia Z's latest successor was released in Spetember 2016. It was called the Sony Xperia XZ which may have a different name but it is considered as the true successor of the flagship device. And in just a little over 3 months, leaks have shown that a new XZ is on tap for a release.

Could this be the Sony Xperia XZ2 or is it new phone entirely? GSMarena has the latest on the leaked information.

Based on the report, a source has leaked a few stolen shots of what is assumed to be the next Sony Xperia XZ. The images show the supposed Xperia XZ in various angles but is never shown up close to warrant the information.

One of the shots shows an image of 4 smartphones placed next to each other. The source claims that the Xperia XZ is the one on the bottom right. According to GSM arena, the unit on top of the supposed Sony Xperia XZ is the older version of the smartphone that was released in Sept.

When comparing the two, the newer Sony Xperia XZ is obviously larger than its predecessor. But judging from the photo, the GSM reports that they can't accurately judge the size difference because of the angle. Trustedreviews.com however, praised the older Sony Xperia XZ and an increase in size will definitely make the smartphone's screen more prominent.

Meanwhile, the report also says that the Sony Xperia XZ will feature 4GB of RAM which increases its predecessor's capacity by 1GB. The fingerprint scanner also remains unchanged and is still integrated in the side mounted power button.

Releasing an updated version that is barely half a year old would seem unlikely as Apple and Samsung have yearly upgrades on their flagship phones. But with the Mobile World Congress happening soon, it wouldn't be surprising for Sony to unveil something. It's more likely that the Sony Xperia XZ on the leaked images may be a larger version of the phone similar to the iPhone 7 Plus otherwise, it will be an entirely new phone.
