New York Knicks Star Carmelo Anthony Trade Rumors Maybe Best For Him

By

Carmelo Anthony has been the center of so much trade controversy that "Melo-drama" just seems like a perfect word for what is happening. The Knicks have offered Melo to the Cavaliers for Kevin Love and have reportedly contacted both the Celtics and the Clippers for possible trade deals for the all-star forward. Knicks President, Phil Jackson, seems determined to get Melo out of New York City.

Phil Jackson recently tweeted his support in an article by Bleacher Report, which looks like it came right out of Jackson's own mouth. The article expresses how Melo lacks the winning mentality that Jordan and Kobe had, both of which found success under Jackson. Rumors have it that Jackson is doing everything he can to make Melo want to leave, however, Melo has all the leverage as he holds a no-trade clause in his contract.

Melo has expressed that he wants to stay in New York, according to CBS Sports, which makes it hard for the Knicks to trade him since he can veto any trade they make. Though there is one trade that makes sense for both teams involved and may help Melo get away from all the drama and tension with Phil Jackson. It would be a trade with the L.A. Clippers for Blake Griffin, but that trade has a very small chance of happening unless the Knicks cut point guard Derrick Rose.

According to an article by Fox Sports, Melo's skill set would be a better fit for the Clippers than Griffin's as it allows the Chris Paul and DeAndre Jordan pick and roll to be the focal point of the Clipper offense. It also allows the team to spread the floor better by having Melo and J.J. Redick on either side of the three-point arc. The Clippers have slipped from the third spot in the Western Conference to the fifth and changing up their offense could help their playoff campaigns.

On the side of the Knicks, they would have a younger core with Griffin and Kristaps Porzingis in which they can build around. They already have Brandon Jennings and Courtney Lee at the guards if they cut Derrick Rose (who has been part of some controversy himself), so it could turn out to be a reasonable step for a rebuilding team. Though it still remains to be seen how the "Melo-drama" will end as the trade deadline draws ever closer.
