NBA TV crews came to Kentucky to shoot a program about college basketball program. However, they did not come to cover the either Louisville Cardinals or Kentucky Wildcats, they went to Simmons College.
According to USA Today Network in Louisville, The Courier Journal, NBA TV crews came to visit Simmons College, one of the oldest and historically black college in America. They covered the basketball program led by coaches Butch Beard and Jerry Eaves.
There are reasons that attracted television crews of the most popular basketball league in the world came to the Seventh Street in Louisville. They did not come to the Third Street which they will meet one of the most successful college basketball program by University of Louisville. Especially Louisville Cardinals is now coached by former New York Knicks and Boston Celtics head coach Rick Pitino.
The main reason of NBA TV crew to come and visit the Simmons College is the objective of the basketball program at Simmons College. The basketball programs is managed not for money as reported by Louisville local News TV, WDRB. The Simmons College basketball program is designed to help people and that what makes the NBA TV to be interested. “It's perfect for the show," said the senior producer and researcher of NBA TV Joe Underhill to comment the Simmons College Basketball program.
Coach Eaves said that he and coach Beard have to make a mental adjustment to students who come to the basketball program. They did not run the program to make the players be able to be drafted into the NBA or play overseas as professional basketball players. But they help the players to focus on studying to pursue other career and become the important citizens of the community.
As the athletic director of Simmons College, Eaves also coaches the men’s team with Beard coaching the woman’s team.
