French Police Probe Suspect of Paris Terror Attack

Suspect of the terror attack outside Louvre museum is identified as Abdullah Reda al-Hamahmy, 29. He is currently under interrogation from French Police. He was apprehended after attacking soldiers with machete on Friday, Feb. 3 outside the Louvre museum.

The suspect , al-Hamahmy is confirmed to be an Egyptian and said he wanted to damage the paintings to avenge Syrian people as reported by Reuters. He was questioned by French investigators and he spoke of his intention after refusing to speak. His confession came Tuesday according to French judicial source.

He was shot five times by French soldiers after attacking a group of soldiers outside the Louvre museum on Friday. He also carried a spray paint in his backpack which he planned to use to damage the painting inside the world’s most visited museum.

According to eye witness as reported by Daily Telegraph, al-Hamahmy shouted ‘Allahu Akbar’ while charged into the group of soldiers. Hundreds of visitors panicked when he wielded his machete and assaulted the soldiers. They were rushed into the secure rooms inside the museum after the attack.

Prior to launched the attack, he approached a group of four soldiers stood guard at the Louvre museum. He tried to enter the Carrousel du Louvre shopping mall carrying two backpacks. The soldiers stopped him and told him that he could not bring his backpacks inside the museum.

Subsequently, he drew the machete out of his backpacks and tried to stab one of the soldiers while shouting ‘Allahu Akbar.’ The other soldiers fired their gun to stop him. Nevertheless, al-Hamahmy managed to wound one soldier before being neutralized.

Following the attack, President François Hollande said the attack at the Louvre was clearly a terrorist act. The attack from al-Hamahmy was the last of the terrorist attack in France which for the last two years have been targeted by the Islamic radical terrorists with allegiance to Islamic State.
