Amanda Bynes agrees to plea bargain for drunk driving charge

By

On Monday, former Nickelodeon star Amanda Bynes agreed to a plea deal to resolve a drunk driving charge, said a CNN report. The plea deal would have Bynes serving three years on probation, pay a fine and attend alcohol education classes, according to a court spokeswoman. In return, the DUI charge against Bynes will be dismissed.

Bynes, who started acting at a young age, appeared on Nickelodeon's Äll That"show in 1996. Due to her prominence in the show, Bynes was later awarded her own variety show aptly called "The Amanda Show" in 1999. She later headlined several teen movies and starred in hit television series "What I Like About You"with Jennie Garth.

CNN said Bynes' BMW allegedly sideswept a police cruiser in April 2012 in West Hollywood. Following the incident, the actress obtained two hit-and-run cases in the next few months, which also include driving with a suspended license. The charges against Bynes were later dropped.

On the other hand, the DUI case was postponed as a doctor disclosed his report about Bynes' mental condition to the court. The DUI case was later resumed in November last year when a judge determined that the actress was mentally capable to stand trial, CNN said.

Aside from the DUI-related cases Bynes was also criminally charged by a New York court for allegedly throwing a bong outside her Manhattan apartment. That, too, was dropped last month, CNN said.

Bynes is currently under the care of her parents after her psychiatric stint at a Malibu treatment center last December. CNN said her parents issued a statement that Bynes will be continuing getting outpatient treatment several times a week.

The 27-year-old actress was taken into residential psychiatric care for four months last year after a latest incident resulted to a psychiatric hold ruling by a judge, which was later extended by Bynes' parents.
