Kyocera Introduces Second Hand Soap-Washable Smartphone

By

With the raise of competitions between smartphones, ideas to create something that could make the brand stands out among the rest can be pretty creative and somehow unique. Waterproof and durable smartphones have been a long desire for any active users and Samsung and Apple grabbed the chances implementing those features on their latest devices. Kyocera, on the other hand, took it to another level by introducing a smartphone that is 'washable'.

In December 2015, the company announced DIGNO Rafre - heavily promoted as 'washable' smartphone with mid-range specs. According to Kyrocera press release, DIGNO Rafre - in addition to resistance against shock, water and dust, features hot water resistance that enables use while washing hands or taking a bath.

Since one washable smartphone could be seen as no threat to other big brand, Kyrocera proceeds to the next stage by introducing another washable smartphone called Rafre. Specs wise, it does not stand out when compared to the high-end smartphones. But its unique features could potentially rings the alarm for other smartphone manufacturers.

Rafre is resistant to hot water - and if you drop it at the hot bath tub, it would do just fine. It also can be used even when it is wet as the touchscreen would not be affected anyways. Oddly enough, Rafre comes with pre-loaded cooking app that can be operated with hand gestures, convenience to those who loves using smartphones while cooking, as reported by Phone Arena.

Kyocera Rafre sports a 5-inch display that supports HD (720p) resolution, and packs 2GB RAM and 16GB of internal memory (expandable up to 200GB via microSD card). It has a 13-megapixel rear camera with properitary image processing runs by AINOS engine, and features 5 megapixel front camera. The rear camera also has Phase Detection Autofocus.

Rafre is distributed with the latest version of Android - Version 7.0 Nougat and powered by 3,000 mAh battery. Rafre is currently only available in Japan and comes in Pale Pink, Light Blue and Clear White color for users' option.
