Trump To Renegotiate NAFTA With Mexico, Canada

President Donald Trump started his first days at the Oval Office by pondering some important issues. One of those is the renegotiation of NAFTA with Canada and Mexico which he will begin soon.

According to USA Today, president Trump began his work at the Oval Office by going straight to deal with some important issues. One of which is to rework the North American Free Trade Agreement. He said his plan after supervising the swearing-in of 30 new White House staff members on Sunday, Jan. 22

"We will start some negotiations having to do with NAFTA,“ president Trump said as quoted by Reuters. "We are going to start renegotiating on NAFTA, on immigration and on security at the border."

During his campaign, NAFTA is one main issue which president Trump pointed. He has iterated to renegotiate the NAFTA trae pact to give more favorable outcome for the United States.

NAFTA is the trade agreement between USA, Canada and Mexico which took effect on Jan. 1, 1994. The agreement superseded previous trade agreement between U.S. and Canada signed in 1988.

Following its implementation, U.S. has seen many the lost of many manufacturing as manufactrers relocated to Mexico. Almost all automakers built manufacturing plant in Mexico and the suppliers network in Mexico grew exponentially. As a result, Mexico has surpassed Canada in the annual vehicle production.

President Trump has promised to reverse the agreement and bringing back the manufacturing job to the U.S. as he stated many times during campaign. He planned to put the Trans Pacific Partnership with Asian countries on hold and making renegotiation of NAFTA as his priority.

He has already arranged the meeting with Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau and Mexican President Enrique Peña Nieto for such purpose. The meeting with president Nieto is scheduled on Jan. 30.
