New Jersey legislators released more than 1,000 pages of documents that "may shed light on a bridge traffic jam apparently orchestrated by Republican Governor Chris Christie top aides to settle a political score," Reuters reported.
The documents were made public "just says after New Jersey officials released emails that appeared to show the Republican governor staff's plotting a traffic jam in September, seemingly to retaliate against the Democratic mayor of Fort Lee because he had not endorsed Christie's re-election campaign," Reuters also reported. The case is seen as a scandal, which invokes themes of an abuse of power and political corruption.
Christie has since fired his deputy chief of staff Bridget Anne Kelly, for her "callous and indifferent" emails to Port Authority executive David Wildstein:
"Time for some traffic problems in Fort Lee," Kelly wrote.
To which Wildstein replied, "Got it."
While Wildstein admitted to ordering the lane closures and resigned his post, he declined to answer questions to lawmakers on Thursday, repeatedly invoking the constitutional protection not to saying that might incriminate him, as reported by ABCNews.com.
