Kim Basinger and ex-husband Alec Baldwin have both spoken about their divorce and the fate that their daughter, Ireland, has endured through the said duration. On a positive note, Basinger says that they are 'cool now', though it was not always like such.
According to E Online, Basinger explained in the past that divorce was rather difficult for a child to endure, regardless of how it is looked at. It was considered very 'public and nasty' in the case of her and then husband, Alec Baldwin, wherein Basinger claimed that she had to bring up Ireland in a rather unorthodox manner. Basinger said that she wanted Ireland to be free to do what she wanted and as a mom, aimed for her childhood to be fruitful.
Basinger was quoted, saying, "Divorce is hard on a kid, no matter how you cut it," the actress said. "And ours was very public and nasty. So I brought up Ireland in a very unconventional way. I just wanted her to be free. If she wanted to have her friends over and write over the walls with pen, that was fine. I wanted her childhood to be full of love and light and animals and friends."
It was delivered by Celebuzz that the two stars met on the set of the 1990 comedy, The Marrying Man, and were married three years after. Back in 2001, Kim filed for divorce and the two of them spent the next year continuously fighting over the custody of their daughter, six-year-old Ireland. Come 2002, the two parties came to an agreement for said issue.
Daily Mail noted that Baldwin also had his share of painful experiences, especially during one of the biggest setbacks for the said case wherein Baldwin was involved in a voice mail scandal in 2007. He called Ireland a 'rude, thoughtless pig' after failing to answer the call, and the particular message went all over social media not long after. Baldwin then came up with a book in 2008 entitled A Promise to Ourselves: A Journey Through Fatherhood and Divorce.
Generally, Basinger said that life goes on, as she is now romantically linked to her longtime hairstylist, Mitch Stone, since late 2014, whereas Baldwin is now married to yoga instructor, Hilaria Thomas. Baldwin now has two children and one more expected this year.
