Honda's Case Closed; Marketing Resumes and Targets 1.07 million vehicles in China

The U.S. government has ended its investigation against Honda Motor Co.Ltd.'s failure to report more than 1,700 death or injury claims and a variety of warranty issues after the auto maker took steps to improve its procedures. With the ruled out decision, notions of Honda resuming on marketing stance to strengthen their profit returns arise.

Honda Motor Co. Ltd. has successfully submitted the required documents to close the investigation and the probe. From written procedures that shed light to the said customer claims up to the needed training for its personnel and even the early warning system were all complied by the auto maker company, Business Insider has learned..

Because of that, the Japanese auto maker has set forth its plans to dominate the Chinese market this 2016 and it targets to sell 1.07 million vehicles in China, according to Channel News Asia.

According to Biz Journals, Honda paid two civil penalties with a total amount of $70 million late last year after admitting it failed to disclose 1.729 death and injury complaints between 2003 and 2014. A fairly large majority of the deaths and injuries were linked to air bag inflators made by Japanese auto supplier Takata Corp. The company also failed to report warranty claims during the same period.

The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration had opened an audit query investigation into Honda's issue in October 2014. The investigation was officially closed on Thursday based on Honda admitting it violated the law and completion of its performance obligations which included instituting new reporting procedures.

NHTSA has intensified its pursuit of companies who don't meet reporting or recall requirements following the 2014 General Motors Co. ignition switch scandal. The Federal law requires manufacturers to submit reports of potential safety concerns on a quarterly basis including production information and incidents involving death or injuries.
