Alexander McQueen responds to Kate Middleton's royal wedding dress lawsuit

A lesser-known fashion designer has launched legal proceedings against a well-known fashion house for alleged breach of copyright of sketches she submitted for Kate Middleton's wedding dress for almost five years ago.

Christine Kendall is suing Alexander McQueen, the luxury label behind Kate Middleton's wedding dress. Kendall claims that the dress designed by Sarah Burton, the creative director of McQueen's fashion house, has a lot of resemblance between the gown and her own sketches stating that Burton stole her ideas. Kendall operates a small design studio in Hertfordshire, Mirror reports.

That said, the spokesperson of Alexander McQueen responded to the allegiations and fully denies the claims. McQueen's spokesperson stated, "We are utterly baffled by this legal claim. Christine Kendall first approached us at Alexander McQueen almost 4 years ago, when we were clear with her that any suggestion Sarah Burton's design of the royal wedding dress was copied from her design was nonsense.

Sarah Burton never saw any of Ms. Kendall's designs or sketches and did not know of Ms. Kendall before Ms. Kendall got in touch with us, some 13 months after the wedding. We do not know Ms. Kendall has raised this again, but there are no ifs, buts or maybes here... this claim is ridiculous," Vogue has cited.

According to The Sun, the UK bridal designer went on to claim that she had sent her 1950's themed sketches to Middleton, a few months before her wedding day. Kendall stated that she received letters of gratitude from the office of Prince William and Prince Harry in January 2011. However, the Duchess responded to the issue stating that she never saw the sketches that are now the center of controversy.

Kate Middleton's wedding dress made headlines way back in April 29, 2011 when the Duchess walked down the aisle in the Alexander McQueen creation to her Prince. Middleton's dress cost £40,000 which was hand stitched using a Carrickmoss lace-making process.
