A female Republican pundit suing Donald Trump for defamation needs to clear high legal hurdles to prevail her case against the GOP frontrunner. In a lawsuit filed this week, the veteran GOP strategist and frequent FOX News contributor Cheri Jacobus is looking for at least $4 million against Trump's campaign and campaign manager Corey Lewandowski for their allegedly false claims against her.
In the $4 million defamation lawsuit on Monday in New York City, Jacobus states that Trump, Lewandowski, and the Trump campaign attempted to smear her after she criticized the candidate as a television pundit.
According to the libel lawsuit filed by the Republican strategist, Lewandowski allegedly boasted that the Republican's frontrunner campaign could do what they wanted with FOX and that the cable news channel was on their side, Before Its News has reported.
With that being said, a spokesperson for FOX comes forward to voice out the network's side regarding Jacobus claims. The FOX News spokesperson stated via CNN Money, "It's hardly uncommon for FOX News CEO Roger Ailes to sign correspondence by offering a helping hand, but it would be a fanciful interpretation to equate a cordial email with providing assistance to a political candidate in the vein of editorial coverage. Furthermore, Roger doesn't recall having even met Corey Lewandowski, much less dining with him."
The lawsuit filed by Cheri Jacobus represents just one of a series of controversies against Donald Trump and Corey Lewandowski. It has surfaced only days after the Trump campaign manager found out that he would not face criminal charges for allegedly battering a former Breitbart news reporter, Michelle Fields, Politico has learned.
It also comes as Trump has spent a year facing criticism for how he referred to women, mocking the appearance of former GOP rival Carly Fiorina and implying that he received hostile questioning from FOX News Megyn Kelly because she was menstruating.
