Sony has officially began rolling out the Android 6.0.1 Marshmallow update on Xperia Z3 Compact, Xperia Z3 and Xperia Z2 phones. Although it took Sony one month later than promised, Sony is glad to finally offer the upgrade along with its native new features.
Sony Xperia Z3 Compact, Xperia Z3 and Xperia Z2 are now officially running on Android 6.0.1 Marshmallow as the Japanese OEM finally declared the beta version a success. Despite of the glitches the device manufacturer went through last month forcing to withdraw roll-out in Canada, Sony will now be able to boast the camera app interface, security patches and everything that goes with the upgrade.
Marshmallow comes with a new build number, 23.5.A.0.570, for Xperia Z3 Compact with model number D5803, Xperia Z3 with model number D6603 and Xperia Z2 with model number D6503. These versions can be found in the United States, Ukraine, Middle East, Latin America, Russia and North Africa.
To look back on Sony's announcement made in October last year, the company promised to deliver Marshmallow goodies by the first quarter of 2016. However, it was not able to make it with the official release; otherwise, the beta version was made available to select devices.
As to the features previewed during the beta program, Android 6.0.1 Marshmallow will bring the Camera 2.0.0 user interface. The improved camera app offers options to switch between different camera modes, video and manual. Sliders were also present to let users fine-tune outputs using brightness, sharpness, contrast, exposure and others.
Additionally, Sony loaded an updated home launcher. With Marshmallow, this feature becomes extra functional with search option embedded into the app tray. Meanwhiile, home screen layout options were taken out, ditching as well the "classic" and "modern" choices. For Xperia Z3, STAMINA had been removed, leaving no more option for adoptable storage.
Marshmallow comes with native features like Doze, runtime permissions, Android Pay, Now on Tap and a lot more.
