"About A Boy" alum David Walton officially returns as a recurring guest star for the upcoming episode of "New Girl" Season 5. According to A.V. Club, the 37-year-old American actor portrays the role of Jess's ex-boyfriend, Doctor Sam.
Walton's character reappears in the 14th episode of the show. Sam was first introduced last season 2 when Jess mistook him for the blind date she was supposed to meet. Sam and Jess dated for a short time and broke up after she kissed Nick.
After a 1-week hiatus, "New Girl" Season 5 will begin airing two back-to-back episodes every Tuesday night beginning this April 19, 2016 until this season's finale episode.on May 10, 2016. The April 19 back-to-back episodes will run from 8:00 p.m. - 9:00 p.m. then the April 26 back-to-back episodes will air into half hours of 8:00 p.m. - 8:30 p.m. and 9:00 p.m. - 9:30 p.m.
The executive producers planned to finish airing all 22 episodes before the season ends. Because of that, FOX network decided to do a double airing of episodes since the current season's premiere date is a little bit delay compared to the other shows with an ongoing season, TV Line has cited.
As for the official plot synopsis of episode 14, Spoilers Guide notes, "When Jessica 'Jess' Day (Zooey Deschanel) is served a restraining order by her former boyfriend, Sam, she sets out to clear her name with Winston Bishop's (Lamorne Morris) help. Nick Miller (Jake Johnson) and Schmidt (Max Greenfield) plot against the owner of a trendy new bar that opened on their street."
