Samsung Galaxy A8 being one of the upper mid-range phones released last year deserves a slot in Android 6.0.1 Marshmallow update. Known for its thin build, the 2015 version of Galaxy A8 is expected to get the official Marshmallow update by this quarter.

Samsung Galaxy A8 phones released in 2015 will be bound for the official update to Android 6.0.1 Marshmallow as the second quarter of the year enters. According to information published in October 2015, the Galaxy A series including A8 will receive the Marshmallow update around April to June 2016.

Updates on Samsung's high-end devices have not yet completed by the first quarter of 2016 as promised last year which might affect release of Marshmallow as well on A phones. Although there was not much information coming from the South Korean giant, the phone is slated to receive the update by June 2016.

Last February, it was reported that Galaxy A8 started to test Android 6.0 Marshmallow beta version and waited for the approval for update. While the official Marshmallow versions is not yet available, famous community of custom ROM developers, XDA, released a firmware for the device based on Android 6.0.

XDA Developers brought a ROM which comes with several tweaks for TouchWiz user interface (UI). This UI features better lighting and shadows, improved graphics performance, reactive and natural movement, and enhanced visual elements.

It also brought smarter notifications ranking, better protection against malware and bugs, improved web experience, automatic encryption ability for lost or stolen device, and support for 64-bit SoCs and UHD 4K 10-bit video playback, among many others.

Samsung Galaxy A8 is currently running on Android 5.1 Lollipop. It was first released in August 2015. The phone rocks a 5.7-inch display with 1080 x 1920 pixels. The screen is made of Super AMOLED capacitive touchscreen protected by Corning Gorilla Glass 4.

Galaxy A8 is powered by Qualcomm Snapdragon 615 chipset, non-removable Li-Ion 3050 mAh battery and 2GB of RAM. The 16MP main camera features geo-tagging, touch focus, face detection, panorama, and high-definition resolution. It has a 5MP front snapper.
