Volkswagen and its Porsche unit announced that they're recalling a total of 800,000 SUVs across the world over a possible problem with its pedal system.
On Thursday, the German car giant Volkswagen (VW) claimed that the recall was a precautionary measure to address a probable faulty pedal mechanism, according to Fox News. VW, which is still facing the emission cheating scandal will be recalling Touareg and Cayenne SUVs. Due to a problem detected during the internal checking of the vehicles, 391,000 Touaregs with 2011-2016 models will be recalled. The VW officials claimed that the problem stemmed from possible loosening of a retaining ring on the bearing block of the pedal system.
The VW recall will also affect 409,000 Porsche's Cayenne SUV. VW's recall comes on the heels of the announcement of the US federal judge to come up with a detailed plan on the solution of the emission scandal. Senior U.S. District Court Judge Charles Breyer marked April 21 as the deadline to fix the emission problem and pay the owners of the vehicles. "I would hope by the 21st that as many outstanding issues as possible will be wrapped up, but at least the issues of what is to be done with these cars must be resolved by that date," he said, Stuff Co Nz reports.
VW is in the midst of fixing its emission scandal after it was found that about 600,000 cars were spewing high levels of pollutants due to a fake emission software. According to Aljazeera, VW admitted to the offense in September. The company claimed that it permitted cars to pass emission tests, despite its giving up to 40 times the required level of nitrogen oxide. The Court of Justice filed the lawsuit against VW on behalf of the US Environmental Protection Agency.
VW claimed that it is highly dedicated to come up a resolution regarding the emission cases. Breyer said that the FBI director assured him that VW, lawyers for the car owners and government regulators had agreed on a solution to get the affected cars off the road.
