Judge Asks Madonna, Guy Ritchie To Settle Custody Dispute, Singer Requests English Court To Close Case

By

The custody dispute between Madonna and her ex-husband Guy Ritchie has been held both in London and New York but the singer recently made a move to close the proceedings of the case in the British court. The request was granted but a New York judge warned the former couple that their dispute should be settled so as not to ruin the life of their son, Rocco Ritchie.

In a report by BBC, Madonna and Guy have been arguing as to where their 15-year-old son should live. Just recently, a New York judge said that Rocco could not leave London as he is studying there.

The teenager left his mother last year and went to live with his father and her step-mother, model Jacqui Ainsley. Since then, Madonna has been asking for her son to be back to New York. Last December, a judge has ruled that Rocco should be back in NYC but lawyers representing his father argued that the teenager himself did not want to go back to the United States.

Per the request of Madonna to have the English proceedings closed, the pop star reportedly told the judge that she wanted to heal the wounds that were opened due to the custody dispute. Justice MacDonald has granted the request and asked the parents of Rocco to seek an amicable resolution regarding the possible living conditions of their son.

Due to the closing of the English proceedings, the case will now be returning to New York. The ruling last December that Rocco should be returned to his mother resulted to the lawyers of Madonna suggesting that Guy should be arrested for contempt of court. However, State Supreme Court Justice Deborah Kaplan recently dismissed the suggestion and pleaded that the parents reach an amicable deal outside of court.

Kaplan added back then that they should not pressure their son regarding the legal issues surrounding them. She added that both parties have chosen to live their lives publicly but their son has not.

Judge Alistair MacDonald echoed the sentiments of Kaplan on Monday. MacDonald said that the proceedings have greatly affected the trust of the family and that the media coverages, comments, and analyses of the case are greatly affecting Rocco. He then pleaded that the parents come up with a solution to stop stressing their son, Stuff.co.nz reported.

MacDonald added that he thinks it would be best if the teenager will get to spend time with both of his parents, CBS reported.

Rocco lived with his mother since the singer's divorce from Guy back in 2008.
