The big screen version of Scott Cawthon's freaky point and click game, Five Nights at Freddy's is currently underway. While official news and details have not been revealed yet, speculations have surfaced that the movie might be released sometime this year.
The upcoming movie adaptation has begun production last year with director Gil Kenan occasionally sharing details and teasers of the film in his social media accounts. According to Youth Health Magazine, the director confirmed that the film will feature full-sized animatronics as they wish to do away with CGI.
Games creator Scott Cawthon is also expected to be involved in the film to make sure that it stays true to the main core of the games. As reported by Ecumenical News, producer Seth Gramahe-Smith previously shared their thoughts on working with Cawthon.
"We're looking forward to working with Scott to make an insane, terrifying and weirdly adorable movie.", Gramahe-Smith said. Gramahe-Smith, Vertigo Entertainment's Roy Lee, and KatzSmith Production's David Katzenberg are set to produce the flick.
Plot details for the film are currently unknown although there are rumors that it would not solely center on Freddy alone and instead focus collectively on the animatronics, but still keeping distance from the Purple Guy. According to Jobs N Hire, the movie could delve deeper into the story presented in the games.
However, it is also possible that they would opt for a different story like the book Cawthon released entitled Five Nights at Freddy's: The Silver Eyes which was unexpected by most of its readers. Speculations are all over the project since it was announced, but these details must be treated with a grain of salt until official details are revealed.
No official release date has been announced for Five Nights at Freddy's movie but since its production began in 2015, rumor mill suggests that it could be released some time in 2016.
