‘Avatar 2’ to further explore Jake Sully’s relationship with Neytiri; Adventures go beyond forests of Pandora?

'Avatar 2' is speculated to explore Jake Sully and Neytiri's relationship further, with some rumors pointing to a plot focusing on their children. It may also take their adventures beyond the forests of Pandora first introduced in the first release from 2009.

Although the second installment in James Cameron's epic adventure-fantasy cinematic series is yet to have a release date scheduled, it is rumored to explore Jake Sully and Neytiri's relationship a step further. Sam Worthington is set to reprise his role as the human protagonist Jake, with Zoe Saldana joining him for a second time as the Na'Vi Neytiri. According to Ecumenical News, principal photography is set to begin in New Zealand as well as Manhattan Beach in California.

The first film introduced the budding relationship between Worthington's Jake and Saldana's Neytiri as well as the internal conflicts between their respective races. According to Digital Spy, Cameron teased that later sequels will be filmed back-to-back. The second film was originally scheduled to be released on December 2014 with the third following a year later but has since been pushed back for 2016, 2017 and 2018 respectively.

It was announced that Cameron himself was "very involved" with the writing process, thus owing to the apparent delay of the series. The filmmaker also teased that his sequel will have "familial and imprisonment" themes pointing out that it will be set several years after the events of 'Avatar'.

Sully is presumed the new chieftain of the clan while Neytiri assumes the high priestess position. Speculations have also erupted that the new plot will focus on their children.

According to another article by Parent Herald, Cameron also revealed that he was setting up an entirely new ecosystem for the 'Avatar 2'. He said that he will be creating an ocean ecosystem in line with his concerns with Earth's own oceans.

He said, "There isn't a direct map between the deep ocean exploration that I've done and the ocean stuff that we're doing in the 'Avatar' films. However, I'm going to continue in the future making documentaries and continuing explorations stuff as well because I'm always fascinated by that."

The original 2009 release was set in the 22nd century and revolved around human colonization of a lush habitable moon named Pandora. Humans mined Pandora for the precious mineral unobtanium threatening the local Na'Vi tribe's existence in the process.

Cameron's film received high praises upon its release in December 2009 and broke several box office records, making it the best-selling film of all time in the United States as well as Canada. It won three Academy Awards namely for 'Best Art Direction', 'Best Cinematography' and 'Best Visual Effects'. Following the massive success of his film, Cameron signed with 20th Century Fox to create three more sequels making it a planned tetralogy.

'Avatar 2' is an epic fantasy-adventure film directed by James Cameron intended as a follow-up to 2009's 'Avatar'. No official release date has been confirmed as of the present.
