‘The Dark Tower’: New actor to play Jake Chambers confirmed; Aaron Paul cast as heroin junkie Eddie Dean?

'The Dark Tower' is an upcoming science-fiction and horror-fantasy film directed by Nikolaj Arcel. Sony finds its Jake Chambers in relative newcomer Tom Taylor, who worked in several television series in the past. Aaron Paul of 'Breaking Bad' fame may have also been cast in a key role in the new film.

According to Entertainment Weekly, Taylor has been cast as Jake Chambers in Sony's live-action adaptation of Stepehen King's bestselling novels of the same name. The young actor will play one of the key characters in the upcoming upcoming science-fiction and horror-fantasy film directed by Nikolaj Arcel.

Taylor's character Jake is one of the main protagonists in King's books and is a member of Roland Deschain's second Ka-tet in the Dark Tower series. In the original novels, he is described as a young boy of around 12 years of age with long blonde hair and striking blue eyes. He has a demeanor of a much older person and is considered Roland's spiritual son.

Jake can also preternaturally sense things as well as having the natural ability for being a Gunslinger. He uses his father's Ruger as a weapon and shoots quickly.

According to /Film, Taylor earned the role after a worldwide search. Although a relatively young actor, he previously appeared in the BBC television series 'Doctor Foster' as well as in the crime-drama 'Legends'. He also worked on the British series 'The Last Kingdom'.

It seems that this new gig would be Taylor's big break depending on how well he can carry his character's physical, emotional and intellectual turmoil on-screen. He joins Idris Elba's lead protagonist Roland Deschain and Academy Award-winner Matthew McConaughey's villainous the Man in Black. Abbey Lee of 'Mad Max: Fury Road' has also been cast in a yet unknown role.

Meanwhile, Aaron Paul of the highly successful 'Breaking Bad' television series has been rumored to play another key character in 'The Dark Tower', Eddie Dean. In the original books, he is also a member of Roland's second ka-tet. Eddie is the husband of Susannah Dean and was introduced in 'The Drawing of Three'.

Paul previously admitted that he had numerous meetings with the film's first director Ron Howard over the project. The cinematic adaptation has since been taken over by Nikolaj Arcel of 'A Royal Affair' and the status of his involvement has become ambiguous. According to Blastr, sources close to the production team revealed that Paul is still attached to play Eddie in the project that will begin development in less than two months.

'The Dark Tower' is an upcoming science-fiction and horror-fantasy film directed by Nikolaj Arcel. It is the first film in a planned cinematic series and is scheduled to be released on February 17, 2017.
