A Jamaican model has recently filed a lawsuit against Trump's modeling agency for not being compensated properly. The court will determine if the case will be proceeding by the end of the month.
The Fashion and Law has reported that Jamaican fashion model Alexia Palmer sued the Trump Model Management LLC for fraudulent misrepresentation. A judge will determine this month if the case will be forwarding as she accused the agency of lying to the federal government in its work-visa application which stated she would be paid a $75,000 annual salary while living in the United States.
However, the model was only compensated $3880.75 during the three-year stay and contract she had with the agency, as reported by Reuters. Palmer is asking for atleast $225,000 in back pay since the complaint is a violation of U.S. immigration and labor laws. The suit was filed in October 2014 and a decision on the pending motion is being awaited. The Trump Model Management LLC is expecting that judge Analisa Torres will dismiss the motion filed this month.
Trump's lawyers have called the class-action suit as "frivolous and without merit." According to Law Newz, Lawrence Rosen said that the $75,000 listed on the visa application was a guess and not a guarantee. Additionally, court documents said Palmer's agreement with the agency is to get 20 percent of her earnings but they allegedly took 80 percent and said that her money went to limo rides, walking lessons, cellphone costs and administrative fees.
Trump Model Management LLC is expecting a dismissal in the filed lawsuit, claiming that Palmer, who wa sonly 17 when she went to New York in 2011, wasn't even an employee and was even more compensated for her work in 10 days for three years. Moreover, though Republican Presidential candidate Donald Trump owns the agency, he's not named in the suit.
