HTC One M8 units of T-Mobile has just received earlier today the official Android 6.0.1 Marshmallow update over the air (OTA) while Verizon is expected to follow in a bit. HTC's Mo Versi revealed on Twitter over the weekend that said devices on these carriers just got technical approval on Marshmallow and will begin updating today.
T-Mobile is currently live rolling out the official Android 6.0.1 Marshmallow via OTA update as promised, while Verizon Wireless will hit the green light later today. Verizon Wireless has already detailed Marshmallow updates on its website revealing that its versions of One M8 will receive features like Google Now and improvements for volume controls.
Verizon states in its website that Android 6.0.1 will bring a bunch of Marshmallow features and enhancements will help optimize device performance and resolve known issues. The new software version for the carrier's device will be 4.17.605.17 and 6.21.605.3.
Based on the featured changelog on Verizon's website, Marshmallow will release Google Now, improved volume controls and screenshots managements. Per leaked information, T-Mobile showcased app permissions, Now on Tap and Doze.
Google Now makes searching for information more convenient. It can be used by just saying "OK Google" on the phone. Specifically, it can display the last five messages of the phone, launch apps or search within apps, make calls and text messages, and search Gmail.
Volume controls become simpler and more customizable. Customization options are available to audio, notifications and alarms. Meanwhile, screenshots will be directly share or deleted as quickly as possible.
Like any other OTA updates, Android 6.0.1 Marshmallow will come in stages. Some locations might receive later or earlier than the others. Thus, it is expected to be capped off in a week's time.
While waiting for the update, make sure to connect phone to a Wi-Fi network or a strong T-Mobile or Verizon Wireless signal. Do not forget to charge up device as well.
Verizon and T-Mobile in the US will be the second carriers to release Marshmallow to One M8. Sprint was first while AT&T has not yet announced anything official.
