Sony Japan had finally began rolling out the official Android 6.0.1 Marshmallow to Xperia Z5, Xperia Z5 Premium and Xperia Z5 Compact devices yesterday. The update is expected to follow in the United Kingdom on Monday to the same devices as revealed the other week.
Sony Xperia Z5, Xperia Z5 Premium and Xperia Z5 Compact in Japan were already enjoying their sweet treat as the official Android 6.0.1 Marshmallow had finally come. Per screenshots revealed by Sony Japan on its website, Android 6.0.1 Marshmallow looked to be a promising update to these killer devices.
Currently, the update being rolled out is for phones under carrier NTT DoCoMo. The new software version is now 32.1.F.0.43 for the Xperia Z5 (SO-01H), Z5 Compact (SO-02H) and Z5 Premium (SO-03H). As forecast by the Xperia Blog, the update "hopefully means that the global rollout will be on the horizon very shortly."
Meanwhile, device owners in the US must now be scrambling from their seats excited as to what Marshmallow can offer them. Sony America has not yet outlined its plans, not even a hint. However, it could be safe to expect that the same update is coming too next week as it usually happened among many device manufacturers. If the update is not going to come by then, it should be within this month as Sony promised many times over that it will release Marshmallow by the first quarter of 2016.
In 2015, the Japanese giant made an announcement to release update to this device along with some others by the first quarter of 2016. Despite many rumors of moving the official roll-out to next quarter, Sony was firm on its promise to deliver target within the given timeframe.
Android 6.0 Marshmallow will bring in a ton of new features and improvements that will surely spice up Android experience. Some notable additions and improvements include Doze mode, Now on Tap, runtime permissions, fingerprint scanner support, a new notification area, Android Pay, simpler volume controls, RAM memory manager, screenshot options, microSD support, apps and settings backup, Google settings, USB Type-C support, Direct Share, app links, redesigned app drawer, and device optimizations.
