The BlackBerry Priv was the first Android powered handset that was released by the Canadian tech giant. This device is now obtainable in India priced at Rs 62,990, its amazing specs and features are also detailed.
According to Business Today, BlackBerry has been losing its market share to Android and iOS powered handsets. The company first came up with the BlackBerry 10 having an operating system with support for Android app and now has adopted the Android operating system. Last month, the company has announced the launch of its first Android powered BlackBerry smartphone, the Priv.
Furthermore, Tech2 added that the new Android smartphone by BlackBerry is now available in stores across India and it will be available via BlackBerry authorized partners and resellers, as well as its online partner Amazon.
When it comes to specifications, the BlackBerry Priv has a 5.4-inch dual-curved WQHD Plastic AMOLED display identical to the Samsung Galaxy Edge series. The display is armed with a resolution of 2560 x 1440 pixels with a density of 540 dpi. The Priv is engineered by a Qualcomm Snapdragon 808 Hexa-Core, 64-bit processor couple with an Adreno 418, 600MHz GPU.
As for the camera, the BlackBerry Priv is packed with an 18 MP dual-flash Schneider-Kreuznach certified snapper that is expected to deliver crisp images. The device has 3GB of RAM and 32GB of internal storage that is expandable up to 2TB via a microSD card slot. It is powered by a 3410 mAh battery that can provide up to 22.5 hours of battery life.
This smartphone also pairs its hardware with a tweaked version of Android, so that it would be a secure Android phone. The company also promises that it will push a software patch every month to fight against malware on Android. The company's Pop-up widgets gives users quick function apps right from the home screen without launching them.
The BlackBerry Priv also comes with the BlackBerry keyboard. This physical keyboard gives full screen content along with touch capacitive features, such as, a trackpad. During the launch, the company also showed a live demo of the DTEK app by BlackBerry. The DTEK by BlackBerry basically keeps track of all the apps installed on the smartphone to keep data secure and to improve user's privacy. This app was also reported to prevent iCloud-like hacks. The phone, running in Android 6.0 Marshmallow, will also improve the DTEK capabilities and security as well.
Additionally, The Economic Times noted that BlackBerry stated that the Priv smartphone has been well received since it was launched globally. The Canadian tech company was also reported to be expanding distribution to additional carriers around the world in the next coming quarters. Moreover, BlackBerry CEO John Chen recently confirmed that company may launch two new Android phones in 2016, but that the possibilities rely on the success of the Priv smartphone.
As the BlackBerry Priv is now available in the second largest smartphone market, the company may hope for an increase with its sales. Nevertheless, this smartphone may be the key for the Canadian tech giant to release another device this year.
