Great nephew lawyer of the notorious gangster and bank robber, John Dillinger is being invetigated for criminal theft.The said relative of the legendary Hoosier criminal has fought for years in order to defend and clear his great uncle's name has gave up his law license following charges investigation.
Lawyer Jeff Scalf faces two criminal theft charges in Morgan County and has resigned from his law profession, Fox News reported. According to a Morgan County prosecutor, Scalf charges could be dropped once he completed the "court's diversion program that works with defendants who struggled with mental health and other issues."
The said lawyer is the infamous American gangster and bank robber, John Dillinger's great nephew, according to Indystar. Scalf founded Dillinger LLC in order to prevent the unlicensed and negative use of Dillinger's likeness and name.
The first charge he was facing was back in the year 2012, wherein Scalf was accused of theft on a flea market. The second filed charges accusing him of thievery from Wal-Mart last year. The said items stolen were reported to have no great value according to Morgan County Prosecutor Steve Sonnega. His representing lawyer, Martinsville Attorney Gen Koch refused to make comment regarding his client's case.
However, Scalf spoke on a phone interview that he will take responsibility for his action but there was also situation involving "serious health issues," Big Story reported. Scalf voluntarily surrendered his professional lawyer's license and was accepted by the Indiana Supreme Court in mid- February. "I feel ashamed, embarrassed, and I am sincerely remorseful," he said. "I am doing my best to get better. All I can do is ask for people's forgiveness," the former lawyer said.
Scalf's grandmother, Doris, was Dillinger's half sister, and she has served as the keeper of the John Dillinger estate. For the past two decades, according to a 2009 profile, Scalf has been on a mission to repair his great-uncle's reputation.
