'Captain Marvel' Update: Actresses who might play the role of Carol Danvers; Joss Whedon to direct the film?

By

Ever since the announcement that a "Captain Marvel" live-action movie would be produced, Marvel comics' fans have been waiting who would play the coveted role of Carol Danvers. With a target premiere of 2019, Marvel is currently taking its own time in having the initial development for the heroine's solo film.

The casting of the titular superhero may have not been confirmed yet, but it has been consistently making rounds in the rumor mill for a while now. Youth Health Magzine have given a list of actresses who could probably play the part of Captain Marvel. One of those actresses is Katheryn Winnick, who according to the site, has a strong possibility to take the lead role. Her movie credits include "A Glimpse Inside the Mind of Charles Swan III," "Killers" and "Cloud 9."

Aside from Winnick, other actresses who also made it to the list of being the possible portrayer of Carol Danvers are Rebecca Ferguson (Mission: Impossible -Rogue Nation), Emily Blunt (Sicario), Charlize Theron (Mad Max: Fury Road), Kate Sackhoff (Oculus). Natalie Dormer is also being considered, but she is currently not the most popular choice in most forums.

However, Movie Pilot hardly believes otherwise. The site suggested that the "Game of Thrones" star is the most suitable actress to play the role of Captain Marvel. Dormer has her own share of familiarity when it comes to action, thanks to her roles in "Game of Thrones", "Rush" and "Mockingjay", which can be useful if ever she gets the part of the superhero. But there is a concern about considering her for the role as Dormer have already been part of "Captain America: The First Avenger". It was noted that she already exist in the same Marvel Cinematic Universe.

Meanwhile, Inverse reported that Joss Whedon is suggested to be the most plausible one to helm the upcoming solo film. Whedon has had enough share of experience when it comes to filming such movies. He was also the one who directed the two "Avengers" movie.

For now, fans will have to wait for the official announcement of Marvel regarding the film. After all, "Captain Marvel" is still far from its announced release date, which is three years from now. Also, there are other movies from the Marvel Cinematic Universe that will be hitting the theaters sooner that fans should lookout for. These are "Captain America: Civil War" and "Doctor Strange".
