Footballer Adam Johnson admitted to kissing the schoolgirl and sending flirtatious messages during a trial at the Bradford Crown Court. He added that he committed the act out of boredom and is sincerely regretful of his actions.
Johnson stood in trial for his child sex case, that he had sent inappropriate text messages to the teenager and kissed her after he grooming her. As reported by Chronicle Live, Johnson admitted that he was not a good person and flirted with other women while she was taking care of their newborn child.
He admitted that he sent the messages while his girlfriend was asleep. "She [Miss Flounders] would have been asleep or sleeping in the other room because the baby wasn't sleeping very well at that time.", Johnson said. "Our relationship was not very good. It was all my fault.", he added.
Johnson stated that he sent messages to a number of other women in their mid-20s at the same time, although, he maintained that he still loved Flounders as much as he always had. According to BBC, he was asked by defence barrister Orlando Pownall QC whether he kissed the girl, to which he answered "yes".
But when asked whether he digitally interfered with her or had oral sex with the girl, the football star denied. He also maintained that he was aware that kissing her was a legal offence but did not know that having communication with the same intent was an offence. Johnson also denied contemplating on committing a sexual act with her.
The Guardian reports Johnson stated that he grew attracted to her after they exchanged messages in WhatsApp and after he gave her two Sunderland shirts. He also told her to delete their messages in order to keep their conversation private so her friends won't ask for more shirts.
When asked on why he searched about legal age of consent on Google, Johnson said that it had nothing to do with the school girl. "It is nothing to do with [the girl]", he said. "We were talking in the dressing room about a programme that was on a couple of nights before about different ages and things like that. There's a lot of players in our team from other countries and we were having a discussion about different laws and ages in different parts of the world."
The sacked footballer also reasoned that he had become arrogant since he started his football career after he dropped out of school at age 15 and everything had been gotten done for him. Trial for Johnson's child sex case continues.
