During an earlier event at the CES convention, Jide introduced the all new Remix OS. Recently at the MWC event, the company has finally announced that the new OS will be available for download for free.
The Remix OS is basically an Android variant system that transforms Google's mobile OS into a desktop OS. It takes all the basic android set up and integrates it into a PC or Mac. This will include a windowed interface, file manager, and system bar ad dock at the bottom of the screen of the app. It also supports the use of keyboard and mouse.
Since it is Android-based, it can support a lot of apps that are already available in the market today like Facebook, Microsoft Word and even games like Clash of Clans. According to The Next Web, the current version of the Remix OS offer a more stable build and supports a 32-bit hardware.
Starting March 1st, the Remix will be available for download. According to David Ko, Jide's co-founder, he believes that the future of Android is aimed towards the world of desktop devices. He added that the improvements in the world of Android are now very suitable to support its transition to the PC-based market. He also said that the key to this is to bring out productivity, as reported by The Verge.
Many people saw the eminent success of Google's Chromebook. It is inexpensive and could do any task one puts it to. The Remix OS also has the same features, from checking email, typing out documents and browsing the web; although Ko said that they are a league of their own and is targeting a different sector in the market.
While some experts see the Remix OS as a rough art on canvass considering the fact that it still needs improvement, the company is doing everything to fix those glitches. They are now currently talking to Google to get their full approval to directly integrate the new system into Google Play Service and Play store.
If users want to try out the new Remix OS, an older computer will be able to install this new beta because of the added 32-bit system support. The hard drive installer has also been updated to allow dual booting of the Remix OS with other operating system, according to Android Police.
Jide announced the full version of the Remix OS will be available in three to six months' time from now. They are also working with a number of companies to bring out the very first dedicated Remix OS machines by 2016 or 2017.
