New lawsuit against Jessica Alba's Honest Co. filed over alleged fraudulent labeling

Honest Co., an online shopping company that was co-founded by "Fantastic Four" actress Jessica Alba, is facing a new lawsuit over labeling dozens of home and personal care products fraudulently.

In a report by Reuters, the complaint was filed by Brad and Manon Buonasera on Friday in the United States District Court in Manhattan. The lawsuit claimed that the products are labeled as natural, plant-based, and chemical-free, causing buyers to overpay. There were at least 41 items named such as laundry detergent, children's toothpaste, soap, bubble bath, and floor cleaners.

The lawsuit added that the products carried labels like "natural", "all natural", "naturally derived", "no harsh chemicals", and many more but in truth, the plaintiffs claim that the products contain a wide array of synthetic and toxic ingredients, Toronto Sun reported.

According to the complaint, the damages could cost at least $5 million and may be tripled as the plaintiffs are seeking class-action status for people who bought the products of Honest Co. The plaintiffs also continued to claim that the company has changed some of the ingredients and labels for some of the 41 products named in the lawsuit. Nonetheless, Alba has not been named as a defendant.

The Buonaseras sued the company after they bought Honest's Conditioning Detangler and Shampoo & Body Wash. They reportedly told the company of their concern back in mid-September, but the advertisements were not changed regarding the said products; hence, the lawsuit, New York Post reported.

This is not the first time that such lawsuit has been filed against Honest Co. Another lawsuit similar to the recently filed has been submitted in the past concerning five products. The lawsuit is pending in a federal court in Los Angeles and the company seeks to dismiss it.

Honest Co. has not yet commented on this latest lawsuit.
