The sudden death of Justice Antonin Scalia last weekend has stirred many theories in Democrats and Republicans. Few are speculating that something is going to be modified in a short span of time before election occurs. The cause of death was considered in its natural state. The family of 79-year-old jurist have agreed with it and has not planned on performing an autopsy.
Due to this turn of events, Republicans are now eyeing a big change in the White House. President Barack Obama has already stated that he will be preparing a replacement for Scalia before a new president is elected, despite the fact that Republicans urged him to ignore the vacancy for his successor.
White House spokesperson believes that it is irresponsible and unprecedented in Obama's part. They claimed that it is his duty to take over on its replacement and have the senate vote for it. As for the senate, majority of them would not take honor the president's bet.
According to Wall Street Journal, the same occurrence also happened in President Ronald Reagan's term. Its only difference is that Justice Anthony Kennedy was proclaimed a year before the election period. That time, the senate was also not in favor for its nomination but everything was done properly. This time its more complicated and challenging.
Now that the case involving matters such as abortion and health related issues are being voted down, the concern increases for the results to be twisted and ending the 4-4 tie, cited from CBC News. It is crucial for the whole country to take sides between the issue currently in dilemma.
Theories about the fact that Obama might be able to push through with this is getting lower, knowing that the senate is against it. As what Matt Bennett said, the chance is not that great. Speculations are emerging that the candidate might be a liberal, but that remains an idea unless stated by the president himself.
The coming weeks would certainly be a roller coaster ride for the White House and Supreme Courts. Republicans are in a close look out in connection to this nomination. Anytime from now, Obama can proclaim the nominee and that could do a huge change on how specific issues can be voted down.
