'Beauty and the Beast' is an upcoming fantasy-musical film directed by Bill Condon and starring Emma Watson. It is scheduled to be released on May 2017 in the United States. A new fan theory suggested that there may be a connection between the 1991 Disney animated version of the film to 'Aladdin'.
According to IMDB, the upcoming live-action adaptation of the classic fairytale of the same name is scheduled to be released on May 17, 2017. It is directed by Bill Condon and written for the big screen by Evan Spiliotopolous and Stephen Chbosky.
The fantasy-musical stars Emma Watson as Belle, Dan Stevens as Beast, Ewan McGregor as Lumiere, Luke Evans as Gaston, Emma Thompson as Mrs. Potts, Stanley Tucci as Cardenza, Ian McKellen as Cogsworth and Kevin Kline as Maurice among others.
Remakes are popular in the Hollywood industry. According to Den of Geek, the new film joins a roster of upcoming live-action adaptations of popular Disney films including 'The Jungle Book', 'Maleficent 2', 'The Sword In The Stone', 'Cruella De Vil', 'The Little Mermaid', 'Mary Poppins', 'Dumbo' and 'Mulan'.
The upcoming film is adapted from the classic tale penned by Jeanne-Marie Leprince de Beaumont. The story was published in 1757 as part of the fairy tale compilation 'Le Magasin des Enfants'. It was adapted into an animated musical produced by Walt Disney Feature Animation and released by Walt Disney Pictures in 1991. The studio initially planned to adapt the fairy tale during the 1930s and 1950s but it proved unsuccessful then.
Meanwhile, according to Huffington Post, a new fan theory linked the 1991 feature 'Beauty and the Beast' with another Disney film 'Aladdin'. A fan suggested that Belle referenced 'Aladdin' during one scene in a bookshop where she picked up a book she said was her favorite. In the scene, Belle described the book as one containing "far off places, daring sword fights, magic spells, a prince in disguise."
The possible Easter egg was suggested by a Tumblr user named Disneymom and is currently circulating the internet like wild fire. Tom Sitio, a former Disney animator and current Chair and Professor of the John C. Hench Division of Animation and Digital Arts at USC, said that the theory was something he had never heard of before.
He commented, "Although, Howard Ashman, who wrote the music lyrics for both films, may have had it in mind when he wrote 'Belle-Bonjour.' He was a very clever man and was working on 'Aladdin' at a pretty early stage."
